Dubai: The 43 vehicles displayed by US automaker General Motors at the International Motor Show ranged from fuel-guzzling muscle cars to the latest in environmentally-friendly automotive technology.

The company's lineup included two world premieres, four concept cars, nine Middle East premieres, eight show reveals, and one special appearance that covered GM brands including Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Hummer and Saab.

"Over the past four years, General Motors Middle East has enjoyed tremendous growth, with sales almost tripling since 2003", said Terry Johnsson, president of General Motors' Middle East operations.

The Tahoe Hybrid, the first full-size hybrid SUV shown in the Middle East and the Chevrolet Volt Concept, GM's first plug-in hybrid vehicle, took centrestage, demonstrating advanced propulsion technologies that improve fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

Growth strategy

Maureen Kempston Darkes, GM Group vice-president and president, GM Latin America, Africa and Middle East, said: "Throughout the world our growth strategy includes launching new vehicles, expanding into new markets and aggressively pursuing our energy diversity strategy, which, together with advanced technology, can make a real difference in addressing environmental issues.

The problem is that everyone is anxious about certain sudden changes, including you. But while you're biding your time until you learn more, others are taking action, and it isn't always well thought out. The best strategy? For now – distract them.
