General Motors recalls Chevrolet Lumina and Caprice over defects
US-based auto-maker General Motors (GM) recently recalled a few of its 2006 model Chevrolet Lumina and Caprice cars in the UAE to repair manufacturing defects, company officials told Gulf News on Sunday.
Abu Dhabi: US-based auto-maker General Motors (GM) recently recalled a few of its 2006 model Chevrolet Lumina and Caprice cars in the UAE to repair manufacturing defects, company officials told Gulf News on Sunday.
Asked how many cars were recalled, Saada Hammad, a spokeswoman for GM Middle East, said: "We don't announce the number of cars recalled."
"In some of these vehicles the bracket supporting the side impact air bag module within the right-hand front seat may become detached and may need the seat back frame assembly to be replaced," GM said in a notice issued in local newspapers earlier this month.
The company asked the customers to contact their local Chevrolet dealer to determine whether their vehicle was involved in the recall. "If yes, a service appointment will be scheduled to have your vehicle properly checked, and if necessary, the seat back frame assembly will be replaced at no cost to you," said the notice.
Mounir R. Baalbaki, GM's marketing and communications manager, said they informed the Ministry of Economy in the UAE, when they learnt of a product recall.
GM advertised in two papers explaining the nature of the recall.
"Our dealers maintain a database of customers. The dealers reach out to the customers and perform any changes required on the car and return the vehicles to the owners," said Baalbaki.
