Gulf News’ Web Producer Nadia Eldemerdash is looking for fun stuff to do that’s out of the box and in the emirate. Shows, plays, galleries, lessons, workshops – she’s bringing it to you first.

- Director Isobel Abulhoul talks LitFest
The annual Emirates Airlines Literature Festival is an event that is near and dear to my heart.
This year I got the scoop from the woman behind it all, Isobel Abulhoul herself.
This year’s theme is Heroes and Villains, she tells me, and LitFest is bringing this quintessential concept to life through a number of sessions. Kate Adie, a former BBC Foreign Correspondent, will be sharing her (probably harrowing, one imagines) experiences of heroes and villains in wartime reporting. With more on war is Anthony Beever, who will be sharing from his latest book on the Second World War.
Boris Akunin and Maxime Chattan will be exposing the truth behind writing crime fiction in one session and investigating the crime scene in another, and will also be participating in the Murder Mystery Dinner! On Thursday, this first-time event for LitFest is part of its five-year celebration. More on that later this week, so keep your eyes on this space!
In other criminal pursuits, Jeffrey Deaver and Anthony Horowitz will be discussing how they recreated James Bond and Sherlock Holmes, and Ian Rankin will be discussing his career writing crime fiction. Check out the LitFest programme for more of this year’s thematic sessions.
