He may have played a drug and sex-obsessed stockbroker in Wolf of Wall Street but Leonardo DiCaprio is determined to keep his own life as pure as possible.
The actor has reportedly just splashed out £6 million (Dh37.4 million) for one of the world’s most environmentally advanced ‘green’ apartments.
The two-bedroom home in New York’s Greenwich Village boasts showers infused with Vitamin C and aloe to neutralise chlorine and soothe the skin, a ‘dawn simulation’ lighting system to stream energising light in the morning and a shield coating to destroy bacteria in the kitchen and bathroom.
The air isn’t just continually cleansed — it is mixed with aromatherapy appropriate to the time of day or the fancy of the owner.
The building’s insulation is soy-based and the ‘heat reflexology’ floors have a layer of cork and rubber designed to reduce stress on the body and improve posture.
According to the New York Post, DiCaprio, 39, has just closed the deal on the fourth floor flat in a ‘WELL certified’ building on trendy 11th Street. Now friends are speculating whether he will be moving his 21-year-old German model girlfriend Toni Garrn in with him.
DiCaprio was won over in his choice of his new apartment by the commitment by owners Delos — a company launched by two former Goldman Sachs partners — to sustainability and the wellness of residents. The five homes in the building each boast amenities that deliver 23 therapies offering improved air, light, water, energy use, nutrition and even sleep.
The flat is in an 1897 building with a terracotta faade and was previously a dress factory and a public parking garage. The most expensive apartment, the duplex penthouse, is up for sale at a reported £30 million.
