Haircut for a cause in UAE

Volunteer in Dubai’s Hair for Hope is encouraging people to cut of their locks to make wigs for those undergoing chemotherapy in the UAE

Tabloid on Saturday

“After hearing so many heart-wrenching stories of mothers who chop off their hair to support their daughters who are undergoing chemotherapy, the least I could do was cut my hair as part of this wonderful initiative,” Samina Kathawala said.

Kathawala was one of many who donated their hair as part of Volunteer in Dubai’s Hair for Hope. The project was launched last year with the aim of encouraging people to cut off their locks to make wigs to benefit women and little girls coping with one of chemotherapy’s most emotionally devastating side effects — hair loss.

This year, eligible donors can donate their hair on November 10 at the NStyle Nail Lounge in Dubai International Financial Centre. If hair matches the donation criteria, donors are entitled to a new haircut free of charge, along with a mini makeover with Illumin8 makeup studio in return for their manes.

Last year the hair collected was donated to Beautiful Lengths in the United States.

And this year Lola Lopez, Founder of Volunteer in Dubai, says, “If a man can jump from space, we can find a wig maker in the UAE. We will be keeping all donations in our possession, till we have exhausted all options in a bid to offer women in the UAE suffering the effects of chemotherapy, a free real hair wig.”
