  • Short cut to wedded bliss

  • At costs of $5-$10 (Dh18-Dh37) per slice, the wedding cake takes a big bite out of your budget. Buttercream frosting can run less than rolled fondant and simpler decorations can save you a lot of money on the bottom line.
  • For a bouquet of savings, pick flowers that bloom in the season. You should also avoid scheduling your wedding close to any big flower holiday — such as Mother's Day or Valentine's Day — when flowers are at their most expensive.
  • Save on your wedding gown by checking out bridal-shop sales, designer-trunk shows (you'll often save 10-15 per cent if you order during the show), bridal-consignment stores and online stores.

Besides these tips, you can also:

  • Design and print your own programmes.
  • Skip the band and hire a DJ.
  • A grouping of candles on a mirrored mat can make an inexpensive and beautiful centrepiece for the table.
  • Make sure you go to bridal expos in your area. Wedding-service providers often offer special discounts to attendees.
