It sounds atrocious when some one blames a book for some hopelessly romantic men. And what even made gulfnews to have a debate on this issue?

When I was a teenager, Mills and Boon were very different from what they are today. Those were sweet romances. Today, it's soft porn. But whatever the year of publication, they have always been escapist fantasies and the sooner you realise it's not how the real world works, the better.

I have read tons of Mills and Boon when I was a teenager. They hold a certain kind of fantasy where everything is too perfect or becomes perfect after a phase of turbulence. It actually is nothing like the reality. In the end, I stopped reading them because the stories were always the same!!!
I think stories should have a certain bit of reality in them and shouldn't be all too candy-flossed. If people of innocent mind read it, they might believe that this is how a guy or a girl is suppose to look like and meet and they will be confused with the real world where there are lots of imperfections.
I believe classics are good. You can relate better with classic stories as they have some moral in them from which you can learn a lot. They are also more focused on reality than fantasy

I think the older versions were more nicer than the new ones. The books are more of a hollywood movie every writer who writes for boon wants it to be inspired for a script!

I dont think it is a corrupting influence. They are just light reading for when you're not in a mood to read heavy stuff and just want to pass some time in a pleasant way. Definitely the older titles were much better than the new ones.

Mills and Boons is the best novels I have ever read. I have read somewhere around 5 to 6 novels and I loved them all. According to me they are not corrupting influence.I think the older titles are best.

This paperbacks aren't good at all. I never tried reading it even I love reading since High School but my sister does. But I guess it creates a very negative impact on the people reading it because it describes an "ideal-perfect" partner. This has been my sister's "search" since then. Now she is 34 and not yet married because she is still looking for her "ideal man" as per describe I guess from these books! I am a self confessed hopeless romantic man but I will not invest my time reading this type of books, not my stuff!
