What to expect: The message is very clear from the moment you walk into Mahec: what you're about to experience over dinner is Modern Authentic Hindustani Evolved Cuisine. I'll admit it does sound a little pretentious, but the cosy atmosphere of the restaurant's terrace and the beyond-friendly staff soon put that notion to bed. Flicking through the menu, it was hard to make a decision on what to order as everything sounded so delicious and exciting - the mixing of classic Indian dishes with a modern twist proved to be more enticing that we first thought. My dinner date and I decided to relieve ourselves of the pressure and left it in the hands of Mahec's well-informed staff, who created a taster menu of their favourites. To start, we devoured our platters of Charmoula prawns, tandoori paneer and chicken tikka before taking a breather between courses. For mains, the lamb biryani seemed like a mediocre choice until it arrived with a succulent tandoori lamb chop on top! The accompanying dal makhani went down a storm - deliciously creamy - just the way we like it! And the whole dinner was rounded off beautifully, thanks to Mahec's sommelier, who paired perfect wines for each course.Cost: Expect to pay approximately Dh500 for dinner for two.
