University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) and Delhi Private School basketball coach Ali Tharammil left a career in law enforcement with the police department in Kerala, India, because of his passion for basketball.

"I enjoy basketball; it's in my blood. I left a good profession as a police officer to pursue basketball."

Tharammil has been coaching since 1984 and said the best part of his job is motivating children in all aspects of their lives beyond just basketball.

"We are their friends, teachers, guides and parents."

He has achieved great results with his coaching but insists there is no secret to his success apart from sincerity and dedication.

"When children know you are sincere they will be the same with you."

To become a coach Tharammil said one needed to first have some experience playing the sport (he played with the Kerela Police Department and was their team captain).
One can then take courses run by colleges, universities or even one's government to become a certified coach.
