Young star Max Collins couldn’t believe it when she was told she had just been picked to co-star with Dingdong Dantes in a prime-time soap. Collins speaks to tabloid! about her biggest break yet.
What was your immediate reaction when you found out about your new project?
I was shocked. Sure, I was hoping I’d be picked for the role, but I didn’t realise it would be me. I heard there were so many others — much more established stars — who were also being considered for the part, so I kind of thought it’s going to be a long shot. That’s why it was such a big surprise when my handler told me.
What do you think clinched the role for you?
Honestly, I don’t know. You will have to ask the producers why they picked me. There are so many things they consider when casting someone for a project. But I am thankful they noticed me. I’d like to think there is some talent to begin with (laughs.) And there’s chemistry or rapport between me and Dingdong.
How do you think this will impact on your career?
Very positively. Everyone wants a prime-time soap, and a lead role. It’s close to saying one has arrived. You’re partly responsible for the success or failure of the show. So if it does well, it will be great. On the other hand, if it’s not as good; then I don’t want to think about it. (laughs again). But with such great actors like Dingdong and Miss Lorna Tolentino and a fantastic director such as Maryo de los Reyes, this is going to be a great soap. There’s a lot of pressure on everyone, not just me; but we think we have a great concept to do well.
The role was initially given to Kylie Padilla. Do you have qualms about being the second choice?
Kylie is such a good friend of mine; she must have her reasons for backing out. So there is no issue between us. I have spoken to her about it, but I plan to see her one of these days. About being the second choice, I don’t think of it negatively. It’s a non-issue actually. Whether one is first or second choice, the one thing that matters is who gets the role and does well with it.
You will have very intimate scenes with Dingdong Dantes. And Marian Rivera, the actor’s girlfriend, is known to be very protective of their relationship. Are you worried she might do something?
I don’t think so. She and I both know it’s just a job. And I know for a fact that Dingdong is very happy with her and that they have a very strong relationship. I don’t see any problems whatsoever.
