Thenmerku Paruvakaatru is a special film in actor Vijay Sethupathi’s life. This film reinforced in him the hope of pursuing his acting dreams.
Only a week before singing this film, Sethupathi had decided to get his resume ready and scout for a regular job.
Sethupathi had left an accountant’s career in UAE in 2003 to pursue acting. But nothing seemed to be going right, apart from the few supporting roles he played.
Seenu Ramasamy’s film went on to become a national award winner in 2010 and the stepping stone for Sethupathi. After playing a negative role in Sundarapandian, Sethupathi’s big break came with Karthik Subbaraj’s Pizza. His versatility came to the fore with his next, Naduvala Konjam Pakkatha Kanom, a family drama told with humour, Sethupathi the performer had arrived and he has not looked back.
However, on the sets of Seenu Ramasamy’s upcoming film, Dharmadurai, Sethupathi went on a nostalgic lane. Shooting in Madurai and Thenkasi in the very same place where Thenmerku Paruvakaatru was filmed, Sethupathi remembered those uncertain times of his life.
“I was feeling so grateful to Ramasamy sir for believing in me then and making my dreams happen,” said Sethupathi.
Dharmadurai brings the two back, with Sethupathi playing the titular role. He plays a doctor and, as the name indicates, he is a man with a sense of honesty and principles.
Dharmadurai has four women in his life who are his strengths. Tamannah and Shrusti Dange play his class mates at medical school while Aishwarya Rajesh plays a village girl in love with Dharmadurai. Radhika Sarath Kumar plays his onscreen mother. Be sure there will be emotional moments that will bring tears.
Other supporting actors include Arul Doss, Soundarajan, M.S. Bhaskar, Kanja Karuppu and Rajesh. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored music. Sugumar is the cinematographer.
Surely a film to watch: Coming from a national winning director Ramasamy, known for his soulful stories and helmed by an actor like Sethupathi, who does not stop experimenting.
Dharmadurai, releases in the UAE on August 18.
