Bollywood actress Vidya Balan can somersault in a sari, the traditional Indian garment. Her claim, not ours.
“We were shooting in the Qasr Al Sarab [Desert Resort in Abu Dhabi] for Humari Adhuri Kahaani. The scene had me running in the sand with heels and a chiffon sari. Emraan Hashmi [her co-star] kept joking that I will fall and trip, but I was running like it was tarmac,” said Balan at a press conference in Dubai on Saturday.
For her next thriller, Kahaani 2, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, she’s still on the run … in a sari.
Watch: Interview with Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, the lead of #kahaani2 , who's in Dubai right now to discuss her latest thriller out in the #UAE this Thursday. Gulf News tabloid senior reporter Manjusha Radhakrishnan speaks to her.
“Durga Rani Singh is a wanted criminal in Kahaani 2. There are two faces to her … Does she want to save her child at any cost or is she a mother who murdered her child? There’s a dichotomy in her character and that was so interesting to me as an actor,” said Balan.
The National Award-winning star, who was promoting her film in the UAE without male lead Arjun Rampal (we hear from a source that Rampal was still recovering from his birthday bash), said that it’s not an easy job to promote thrillers.
“I have never felt more [at a] loss for words. You don’t want to say too much. But I can tell you that it’s an emotional suspense thriller.”
The trailer was neatly packaged and had the right mix of mystery and intrigue. Whether Durga Rani Singh was a criminal or a mother trying to save her child was the big question.
“You will need to just wait till Thursday to find all the answers,” she said.
After the press conference at the Oberoi Hotel Dubai, the actress proceeded to meet hundreds of fans who had gathered at Lamcy Plaza to meet her. She told them she loved coming to Dubai and thanked them, entertaining them by delivering some dialogues from her old movies.
