Dubai Fashion 2008 will feature haute couture and prêt collections by leading international designers Barbara Bui, Stephan Rolland and Christian Lacroix, as well as the latest collections from prestigious brands Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Dior, Stella Cadente, Ungaro, Valentino, Alaia, John Galliano and Michel Klein presented by Etoile.

The event, to be held at the Madinat Arena from February 10 to 12, has been organised by Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) in association with BurJuman. Entry is by invitation only.

Ideal platform

"Five years ago when we decided to organise an international fashion event, it was a great challenge for us to attract the world's top fashion houses to come to Dubai. But now Dubai Fashion has made its mark on the international fashion map and the biggest names in global fashion are eager to participate because they see our event as the ideal platform to reach out to the Middle East markets," said Suhaila Gobash, event manager, DSF Office, at a press conference held yesterday at BurJuman.

"This year, Dubai Fashion will present some of the most talented and innovative designers from the fashion world, cementing Dubai's position as the fashion capital of the region," she added.

Gobash also announced that Creations — The Young Fashion Designer's Dream, the second segment of the Dubai Fashion Festival, would take place at BurJuman from February 14 to 22.

"While Dubai Fashion is an important international event, Creations is also attracting the attention of the regional fashion industry. Initiated during DSF 2004, this event provides a platform for upcoming fashion designers of all nationalities and ages to showcase their work and establish themselves in the region," she said.

"This year our selection committee has chosen 18 promising young talents and experienced professionals from the region to display their collections. DSF will provide all the logistical support necessary for the ramp shows that will take place daily at BurJuman," she added.

Showcase

Eisa Adam Ebrahim, general manager, BurJuman, was also present at the press conference.

"BurJuman is pleased to partner with DSF in bringing the latest fashion trends to Dubai and strengthening Dubai's position as a premium shopping destination through Dubai Fashion.

"We are also looking forward to displaying the work of young and upcoming designers from the region at Creations. After the ramp shows we will provide the participants display space in the mall to give them additional exposure to an international clientele," he said.
