The hottest ticket in town on day five of Paris Fashion Week was without a doubt the Celine autumn-winter 2010/11 show. The fashion pack gathered with bated breath to see what British designer Phoebe Philo would deliver for Celine.

The silhouettes were essentially dominated by clean lines and bold shapes. Sharp, minimalist tailored jackets complemented well-cut shirts and puffy wraparound skirts. Easy 1920s shift dresses were also key pieces.

A-line jackets either featured floppy, oversized lapels or strong structural collars that had been turned up to scoop the neck.

Ankle boots and classic court shoes featured chunky heels, again reminiscent of the 1920s era. Sheer and lace body-hugging long sleeved tops were worn with cropped trousers and long pencil skirts. Smart classic shirts were oversized and relaxed.

Accessories were down to a minimum but a thin gold collar clip, a simple gold bracelet or a dainty brooch occasionally caught the eye. The bags were small and clutches looked like large-size leather envelopes.

Philo's new collection was elegantly understated complex, and quietly strong. The silhouettes were rich without being showy. Personally, one of the most striking silhouettes on the runway was a cream knee-length fluffy lambswool cape held together at the neck with a bold antique trunk lock.
