Meet style guru Kim Jones - the new face of fashion at Dunhill
One of fashion's rising young stars has taken over as creative director at Dunhill and expectations are riding high.
A St Martin's graduate, Kim Jones, 32, has already worn a number of hats at some of fashion's most well known names: Alexander McQueen, Hugo Boss, Mulberry and Louis Vuitton where he acted variously as designer, creative director, fashion editor and stylist. Jones was also named Britain's menswear designer of the year in 2006.
"I have always followed fashion and loved it, but it took me a while to get to the point where I actually realised it's what I should do," he says. Jones's mantra at Dunhill will be to perfect the fit on clothing as well as to get fabric technology and detailing to be subtle and luxurious yet stylish.
"I have learnt that if you don't try new things, nothing progresses. And if you don't feel comfortable in a piece of clothing, it's not for you. So don't worry and wear what you're comfortable in, you'll be happy and feel more relaxed."
And what exactly is comfort? "If you have to dress up, make sure you get a suit fitted properly at a reputable store. It's never good to see a man in a badly fitting suit. And if you follow fashion, always reinterpret runway looks, don't wear them head to toe!"
When he designs menswear Jones thinks about style, practicality, modernity and function because in his words: "I think men want to feel comfortable and stylish at the same time."
What's the one item you shouldn't be without this summer? "Just one bright piece is fine with a good, classic palette." You heard it here first.
