Giorgio Armani's pre-fall collection is a great example of what this mini-season means - and it holds true for the Gulf too.

Just think about what you want from this season: As hot and sweaty as it is, we're all desperate to shed our overworked summer dresses for something more substantial. We're craving jackets! Boots! Knitwear!

Considering the AC we are all subjected to daily, it's not that crazy. But then again, no one's ready for a totally wintry look. And that's where pre-fall comes in, giving you a measured dose of light coats, sweaters and cute dresses with a cooler attitude.

Just take a look at Armani's light-as-a-feather jackets and knits and sharp tailoring (a breath of fresh air after months of smocks).

What is recessionista Fashionista?

A recessionista is someone who seeks out fashionable items which are also low-cost. This term is a portmanteau of "recession" and "fashionista".

Recessionistas aren't going to let a thing like a poor economy stand in the way of fashionable dressing, and they may develop a distinctive and unique style using low-cost but still fashionable items.

Becoming a recessionista can take some work, especially for people who are accustomed to big fashion budgets.

Many people like to start with basic garments which can be dressed up with stylish accessories like shoes, scarves, and jewellery.

Sometimes a few more expensive items can be used strategically to flesh out a more low-cost wardrobe; for example, a really good pair of shoes can be used in a variety of ways, justifying a comparatively higher cost.
