Denim rules: Find the perfect pair for you
Make these rules your new mantra so the next time you go shopping for jeans, you'll find your perfect pair

- Avoid the inevitable muffin top by choosing the right size, which will look way more flattering than a pair of legs that look like they're ready to burst at the seams.
Rule 1: Choose the right shape
Don't get lulled into buying a pair of jeans because they're on-trend. If a pair of boot cut jeans work better for your shape, then buy boot cut, which are great for classic pear shapes. Straight or narrow leg jeans suit hourglass figures, and if you're lucky enough to have a model physic (straight up and down), then you can opt for skinnies.
Rule 2: Buy two pairs
You can spend a lifetime trying to find your perfect-fit jeans, so when you find that pair, buy more than one. Invest in a few pairs and rotate them in order to make them last longer.
Rule 3: Wear it appropriately
Even though denim has now found its way into the office, it's still not appropriate to dress up your jeans to a boardroom meeting. If you have the kind of job that requires you to have a smart work wardrobe, then keep it smart.

Rule 4: Do double up
Denim goes beyond jeans to shirts, skirts and shorts. And even though it used to be a big no-no to wear denim on denim, it's now perfectly acceptable to mix your high-waisted denim flares with a fitted denim shirt.
Rule 5: Look for stretch
Some jeans are made from really stiff material, which makes them impossible to feel comfortable in, let alone walk in. Jeans made with stretch woven into their fabric will move with your curves.
Rule 6: Limit white
White jeans are super hard to pull off - think tanned skin and a hot country. The biggest mistake women make when wearing white jeans, is wearing the wrong colour underwear! Opt for a thong in a tone that matches your skin colour to avoid any embarrassing moments.
Rule 7: Remember size matters
Don't force yourself into a pair of jeans. Avoid the inevitable muffin top by choosing the right size, which will look way more flattering than a pair of legs that look like they're ready to burst at the seams.
Rule 8: Colour on occasions
The stores are full of fun and frivolous coloured jeans right now, but that doesn't mean you have to go out and buy yourself a denim rainbow. Leave the bright, bold colours to the young ones and stick to neutrals, like black, blue and grey, which will make great staples for your wardrobe.
