Designer Michel Klein talks about his style and inspiration.

Michel Klein began his career with Dorothee Bis and Guy Laroche and now makes his own luxury ready-to-wear. The Paris- based couturier also designs accessories, perfumes, furniture and home accessories.

The designer, who made his first visit to Dubai for the show on Monday, claims that he never attends fashion shows in Paris because he finds it very boring to watch models walking up and down the ramp in different dresses. Here is what he had to say about his fashion philosophy:

Why did you decide to be here personally at Dubai Fashion?
Because Ingie Chalhoub, CEO of Etoile, invited me and I would never say no to her because she is a dynamic action-oriented person. She has introduced many good designers to this region.

What do you think about the market in Dubai?
I have no idea about this market because I never look at my creations as pieces to be sold in a market. But I see no difference between women here and abroad. All women want clothes that are new, sophisticated and make them feel sexy.

What are you showing at this show?
I am still putting finishing touches to my spring-summer 2008 collection, so we have selected pieces from my last few collections. I believe that designer garments should be classic and timeless so that a woman can wear them beyond just one season.

How would you describe your signature look?
Simple, sexy, elegant, timeless and technically skilful.

What are your inspirations?
I like to watch people on the move. Most of my ideas come from watching people at cafes, airport lounges and hotel lobbies.

What is your personal style?
I hate shopping for clothes and prefer clothes that are simple and as invisible as possible.

How do you see Paris and French fashion in the context of today's fashion scene?
At Paris Fashion Week only 20 per cent of the designers are French. Paris is such a great centre of fashion because of the blending of cultures, which is very important in today's world.
