Love and Mercy
Looking for some Good Vibrations this weekend (sorry that was cheesy), well God Only Knows (even worse!) one film to watch and it’s this! If you hadn’t cracked it yet then yes, this is the movie all about Brian Wilson aka Mr Beach Boy.
John Cusack, Elizabeth Banks and Paul Dano lead this biographical film in which we follow two Brians, running in parallel throughout the film.
We meet the young Brian (Dano) in the 60s as he is struggling to deal with the voices in his head at the same time as writing the best album ever made. We see the older Brian (Cusack) in the 80s as a broken man with only his therapist Dr Eugene Landy (Paul Giamatti) for company. When Brian meets Melinda (Banks) he starts to realise things aren’t quite right and she is determined to save him.
It will make you see the band and hear the music in a much different way, plus it’s had the approval of the actual Brian Wilson. If it’s good enough for him its good enough for us!
Guardian
If gunfights, car chases and large bangs are your thing then check out Guardian this weekend. Oh and guys, like the girls doing all the action then extra plus points for you! This Indonesian made film is all about a woman who’s husband dies mysteriously. She has to protect herself and her daughter (lucky she’s a martial artist) against the police, assassins and just about everybody it seems.
Forbidden Empire
Fantasy film time this weekend and here comes a pretty dark powerful story that delivers a new take on the Ukrainian folk story ‘Viy’ from Russian author Nikolai Gogol. If you’re a fan of all things medieval and Ukrainian then you might remember the 1967 film Viy. If you’re not then maybe don’t go out of your way to see this film … unless of course dark fantasy adventure films are your thing!
Out of the Dark
Imagine this, fresh new start, new job, new house in a new area with your loving family. Then imagine the area and in particular the house you’ve moved into is haunted. Sounds like a great horror story right?
Julia Styles and Scott Speedman star in this freaky tale set in a village where all the kids were burnt alive. Ouch. So when the little girl gets kidnapped by a bunch of kids in bandages you can kinda see where this film is going. Often scary and well made this is a good choice if you want to freak yourself out this weekend.
* The Kenny and Daisy Show wakes you up with the usual breakfast show banter, just a little bit better. Weekday mornings from 6-10am on 99.3 & 106FM or online at radio2uae.com.
