A still from the film 'David'

After Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vishwaroopam’, it’s the turn of Neil Nitin Mukesh’s Hindi-language thriller ‘David’ to face a delay in release in the UAE.

The thriller, which was due to release on Thursday, is still under review, an official at the National Media Council told tabloid!. However, the film’s Tamil version, with a slightly different cast and storyline, was released as scheduled.

“The Hindi version of ‘David’ has extra scenes that we have to see closely. We will need to watch it again,” said Juma Obaid Al Leem, director of the Media Content Tracking Department at the Council. His team is scheduled to review the film again on Monday.

Cinemas in Dubai confirmed that tickets were available for the Tamil-language film and that the Hindi version has been taken off their schedule.

Directed by Bejoy Nambiar of the critically acclaimed ‘Shaitaan’ fame, the thriller traces the lives of three individuals by the same name David. The three stories are set in three different time periods.

In the Hindi version, Mukesh plays a gangster, whose story, according to our sources, could be a part of the objected portions. But the Tamil version starring actors Vikram and Jiva does not feature the character.

At the time of going to print, the producers were yet to comment on the issue.
