This Diwali, a string of Bollywood stars are gearing up to spread some cheer in Dubai at separate events being rolled out.
On November 4, veteran actress Hema Malini will be in town to inaugurate the Malabar Gold & Diamonds showroom at Meena Bazar. After the formal “red-ribbon cutting” on Sunday, the actress will head to Deira City Centre to launch their latest diamond collection at 8.30pm.
A week later, “3 Idiots” star Sharman Joshi will be in Dubai to support his wife Prerna Joshi at an art exhibition. On November 16 at 2pm, Joshi is expected to visit the Samsara Art exhibit at Hotel Raffles.
The star spotting doesn’t end there. Bollywood power couple Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar will stage their renowned play “Kaifi Aur Main” on November 23 and 24 at Centrepoint, Ductac.
The acclaimed theatrical production is a celebration of renowned Urdu poet and film lyricist Kaifi Azmi`s life and works seen through the eyes of his wife, noted theatre and film actress, Shaukat Kaifi. It’s brought to life by his daughter Shabana and son-in-law Javed. The tickets are available for Dh500, Dh250, Dh150 and Dh100.
Meanwhile, action is expected on the Bollywood premiere front. Word has it that Akshay Kumar, Asin and Himmesh Reshammiya are Dubai-bound to showcase their much anticipated “Khiladi 786” toward the end of the month. Actress Preity Zinta might also stick to the tradition of peddling her comeback vehicle “Ishk In Paris” to her UAE fans.
The Doha Tribeca Film Festival is also likely to witness some Bollywood action. Actor Anupam Kher who features in the Hollywood film “Silver Linings Playbook” may end up rubbing shoulders with his Hollywood colleagues Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper. But the big question is will the Chopra clan head to Qatar for the tribute screening of Yash Chopra’s swansong “Till I Breathe This Life “ (Jab Tak Hai Jaan) starring Shah Rukh Khan.
