The beauty of yoga is that it is not space, time or age bound and can be practised by anyone in any given place. Last week we learnt certain postures that can help maintain your fitness while on a vacation. Now, let us look at a few postures that can be practised using a small chair as a prop.

Note: Though these postures are easy to do and can be done by all at home, as with all exercise, it’s advisable to consult a doctor before starting them.

1 Sit on a chair with your right leg stretched out.

2 Take a deep breath in and raise your hands up.

3 Bend forward while exhaling and reach for your right foot, as shown, and get your forehead to the knees.

4 Hold this position for 10-30 seconds and repeat the same with the left leg.

Note: The same can be done as a standing posture as well. Depending on your flexibility, increase the effectiveness of the stretch.

1 Stretches the hamstrings and strengthens the legs.

2 Increases agility and blood circulation of the legs.

3 Strengthens and tone the gluteus muscles.

4 Reduces sciatica pain.

Caution: People suffering from lower back pain are advised to do this posture with the chair as a support.
