The Icon Bronco - a modern take on a classic and macho American SUV - is the stuff of dreams for lovers of vintage design.

Icon founder and lead designer Jonathan Ward collaborated with Ford's Camilo Pardo (best known for designing the Ford GT) on this project.

The design brief called for a strong focus on maintaining the original Bronco's classic aesthetic and design values while reinventing everything else down to the smallest detail - the only exception to this brief was the Bronco's stock body, which remains the same.

"The Bronco has long been in our hearts and on our minds. It has been the number one requested model from our customers and fans. As the classic American 4x4, it was a great match for our US crafted brand," Ward says.

The Icon Bronco has all the trappings of a modern car. It has a modern in-dash HVAC system, keyless ignition, tilt-column, bucket seats and LED lighting throughout the interior and exterior.

It uses the 2011 Ford Coyote 5.0 V8 engine currently found in the new Mustang GT. With 412 horsepower and 390lb-ft of torque, the Icon Bronco promises drivers plenty of giddy-up behind the wheel.

In addition to Ford Motor Company, Nike also played a vital role in the vehicle design. Ward says Nike assembled a ten-man team of mathematicians, engineers and fabricators.

The first five prototypes have already been pre-sold and the company will produce a numbered and signed limited-edition series of ten Icon Broncos. "We have a few Icons in the Middle East. We hope to find buyers there," Ward says.
