Friendly neighbourhood restaurants are a nice change from the hundreds of fancy ones in Dubai. Bean There Bistro in Garhoud is one such place that is cosy and affordable, and serves up wholesome, unfussy food.
This spot is tucked away behind tall hedges in the extension of the Millennium Airport Hotel and sitting at a long wooden table in the bistro, it’s hard to tell that we are right off a busy city junction. The interiors are warm and welcoming, with a wall of plants adding a vibrant burst of colour.
We start off our meal with nachos and mushroom arancini, and some fresh juices. The nachos arrive with the toppings on the side, so we have fun combining the crisp chips with varying combinations of olives, tomatoes and pickles. The arancini are addictive; cheesy and hearty with a heady truffle flavour.
For mains, we try the crispy half chicken and BT Garden whole wheat pizza. I will admit that I was expecting a crunchy, deep fried chicken, but what I’ve got is a very healthy looking roast bird. Digging into the massive portion, I am glad to find that the meat is flavourful and tender. It comes with a ratatouille and mashed potatoes, which I would have happily substituted for more of the delicately flavoured vegetables.
The pizza crust has a nice bite to it and even with a healthy serving of cheese on top it isn’t too greasy or heavy.
An apple delight, sauteed apples with caramel sauce, for dessert is a sweet (but not too sweet) healthy end to a delightful meal.
Check out this sweet little restaurant for simple food that will warm you right up.
