Recently, I saw a Facebook post that read: “if you have a toddler around, even a visit to the grocery store feels like a mini-vacation.”

I thought it was hysterically funny – the operative phrase being “hysterically”.

Now that you get a clear picture about our domestic scene, imagine our excitement at trying out the Valentines’ spa package for couples offered by Rixos Royal Spa at Rixos The Palm Dubai.

The red carpet laid out at the entrance of the lavish Turkish property is a good indicator of the things to come.

They treat you like royalty and for the next 85 minutes we were transported into a world where decadence rules.

The intimate den — almost a size of a spacious studio apartment in Dubai — boasts of two massage tables, a private Jacuzzi, a shower and a lounge laden with silk cushions. With these in place, the script for a perfect Valentine’s couple massage was already locked in.

After giving us some privacy to get acquainted with the zen-inducing room and to change into fluffy bathrobes, two masseuses get down to work on our tired muscles. Aromatic oils are rubbed on backs and all those tight knots are smoothened out. Both of us didn’t utter a word as we gave into 45-minutes of expert kneading.

But what came next was straight out of a romantic film. A plate full of neatly-cut tropical fruits and mixed fruit juice materialised in front of us. As far as superb, romantic settings go, they couldn’t have played it better as they left us alone. After biting into some healthy portions of fruit, it was time to dive into the Jacuzzi. And dive we did. It was like having a resort holiday, with no air travel and visa hassles.
