Lane markings have faded on the roads in Sharjah’s Al Ghubaiba area causing confusion among motorists. Image Credit: Shikha Dixit

I would like to raise a concern about the stretch of road on Shaikh Rashid Bin Saqr Al Qassimi Street in Sharjah’s Al Ghubaiba area. I regularly drive through this area, and I have noticed that there are no lane markings or any arrows on the road (as seen in photograph).

It becomes very difficult for new drivers, or those still learning how to drive, to commute on such roads. Changing lanes at the last moment by these drivers causes a lot of inconvenience to other motorists. It could even lead to some serious accidents.

I have also seen some unconcerned motorists taking advantage of the situation, driving at their own convenience and merging in at the last minute without even considering that someone else has been patiently waiting for his or her turn.

Furthermore, due to a lack of proper lane markings people tend to lose control of the traffic flow.

The other concern here is that there are no proper signboards to indicate the petrol station on this road. When a motorist sees the station, he or she tries to quickly change lanes at the last moment to reach it, which could also result in an accident.

Even the roads in the Industrial Area 1 have faded markings. I sincerely request the concerned authorities to look into the matter and re-do the road markings and install proper signboards for directions.
