Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday issued federal decree No 179 of 2016, appointing Mohammad Bin Hamad Al Badi as president of the Federal Supreme Court.

Shaikh Khalifa also issued decree No 178 of 2016 on the retirement of Dr Abdul Wahab Mir Ahmad Abdul, former president of the Federal Supreme Court.

The second article of each law stipulates that all concerned authorities within their respective fields of jurisdiction shall implement the newly issued decrees.

The two decrees shall be effective from the date of their issuance and will be published in the Official Gazette.

Al Badi, the new president of the court, holds a bachelor’s degree in Sharia and law from UAE University. He worked at the Judicial Department for 10 years as a primary judge and later as appellate judge. He was appointed as president of Al Ain Sharia First Instance Court and then of the Abu Dhabi First Instance Court.

He also served in several positions including attorney-general in 1999 and secretary-general of the General Authority of Awqaf in 2004 as well as Adviser to the Minister of Justice in 2007 and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice from 2009 till now.
