It’s a big day for South Indian actress Bhavana who got married on January 22 in Thrissur, Kerala, to her longtime producer-boyfriend Naveen in a temple ceremony. The two were reportedly dating for five years before they decided to take the plunge.

In the images that have been doing the rounds on social media, Bhavana was dressed in a golden Kanjeevaram sari and decked in traditional red temple jewellery, while the groom was dressed in cream mundu (dhoti).

The Mehendi ceremony, held on the eve of the wedding, which saw Bhavana dressed in a mustard off-shoulder gown, was a relatively informal affair. Actress and Bhavana’s close friend. Remya Nambeesan, was also spotted enjoying the celebration.

In an interview with Gulf News tabloid! in October last year, the then-engaged Bhavana cut a picture of a calm bride-to-be and was keen to begin the new chapter in her life.

“I want to focus on life after the wedding, rather than the wedding itself... I have no jitters really because I started putting make-up on and facing the camera when I was 15 and I am used to lot of people around me. But it’s the life after the wedding that excites me,” said Bhavana at that time.

The Adam Joan star, who has become a symbol of empowerment among women, also caught the attention of Quantico star Priyanka Chopra who posted the warmest video message for the bride on her big day.

Chopra in the video message said: “I just wanted to wish you a very happy married life. This is going to be a big step in your journey and I just want to say good luck. You’re an extremely feisty, brave and amazing woman and I admire you a lot. Much love and always.”

While the wedding was attended by close friends and family, a star-studded reception will take place this evening at the Lulu Convention Centre.

Bhavana is a popular actress in the Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada entertainment industry. She has acted in hits including Swapnakoodu and CID Moosa.

The wedding was attended by only close relatives and friends of the couple, according to IANS, with the ceremonies conducted as per Kerala Hindu traditions. More than 100 police officers were posted to restrict intrusion by fans.

After the simple ceremony, the couple drove to an auditorium where a feast was arranged.

Later in the evening, a special reception was held for the couple’s friends from the south Indian film industry.
