Ramallah: Khalida Mohammad Jarrar, a high-ranking official from the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PLFP) has been expelled from her home city of Ramallah by Israeli occupation forces.

The Israeli military raided her home in the early morning to hand Jarrar, 49, a copy of a court order that banishes her to the city of Jericho. The order accused Jarrar of being a security threat to Israel and also specified precise paremeters in which she is allowed to move in Jericho.

Speaking to Gulf News, a PLFP official has described the expulsion as the ‘first of its kind’ and a ‘new form of collective punishment’ for Palestinians and their leadership.

Jarrar is a key West Bank leader of the PFLP and a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC). In the Palestinian legislative elections in 2006, she was elected to the PLC as one of the PFLP’s three deputies and she was the PFLP candidate for mayor of Ramallah.

Jarrar is married and lives with her husband and children in Ramallah. In 1989, she spent several years in an Israeli prison and for the past decade has been barred by the Israeli security authorities from crossing the border into Jordan even for medical treatment.
