Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has announced the launch of several innovative projects as part of the UAE Innovation Week 2016 being celebrated under the slogan ‘The UAE innovates’.

One of them is the ‘Happiness Prescription’ project that aims to treat patients not only by prescribing medication but by also prescribing a nutritional and physical programme for each patient.

Another is the ‘Healthy Living’ project which aims at encouraging people to burn calories while sitting in public places by having mobile pedals.

The DHA will also launch the ‘Nawm Sehy’ (Healthy Sleeping) machine, which monitors patient’s sleep, and ‘Qalby’ (my heart), a small wireless device that can remotely monitor a patient’s heartbeat.

Other initiatives include the ‘Tummy Fish’ App that encourages children to remember to drink water and the ‘Smart Toothbrush’ that helps children to brush their teeth in the correct manner. The DHA’s ‘Health Icon’ project aims to provide members of the community who suffer from a certain health problem a platform to share advice and information to support one another.

Humaid Al Qutami, chairman of the Board and director-general of the DHA, said the Innovation Week embodies the vision and wisdom of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Al Qutami said when Shaikh Mohammad launched the Innovation Week, he did so knowing that it will establish a new competitive idea that incentivises organisations to innovate and utilise their skills in order to keep up with Dubai’s development in all fields.

He also added that for the DHA, this is an important opportunity to showcase its innovative ideas that look at better provision of health services to the public through utilising creative techniques and smart services.
