Abu Dhabi: Road and infrastructure projects, including electricity, water and sewage services, are being developed in southern Al Wathba, the Abu Dhabi Municipality announced on Wednesday.

Expected to be completed in 2015, the initiatives containing solutions for storm water, lighting poles, sidewalks and pedestrian walkways will span 58 residential areas, four government departments, with roads being up to 5.3km long.

Garden and park rehabilitation projects are in their sixth phase since their beginning in October 2014 and will be expected to be completed during September of this year.

Future projects will include the Al Wathba Garden Library spanning an area of 412 square metres, which will begin construction in September 2014 and is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2015. The library will contain computers, a child’s area, a lounge, staff offices and a cafeteria.

During April 2015, construction will also begin on several parks in South Wathba to be finished by August 2017.

A number of other medical and educational projects are also under way in the area in a bid to develop this region of the capital even further.

Abdullah Nasser Al Junaibi, Director of Community Services also stated that the Municipality is implementing a number of projects including the maintenance of the road leading to the water treatment plant, and reconstruction of internal roads in addition to improving traffic safety in the region.
