The Department of Economic Development (DED) set up the Dubai Quality Group (DQG) as a non-profit business organisation under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Department of Civil Aviation, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Group. The group offers many programmes throughout the year with the objective of improving quality and service among its member organisations.
Since its inception in February 1994, the DQG has grown to include more than 2,000 individuals representing more than 350 prominent organisations from both the private and the public sectors.
The DQG organises activities aimed at developing the professional and managerial expertise of individuals. It has close links with professional bodies and academic institutes in other countries and provides an excellent environment for its members to meet and exchange ideas, information and expertise. It is a forum where all types of organisations can benefit from each other.
DQG offices are located in Emarat Atrium on Shaikh Zayed Road, Dubai, where facilities include a fully equipped library and conference room. Membership is open to all companies, regardless of size.
The DQG has developed a series of structured and organised programmes to meet the needs of the business community. Approximately 12 evening and
half-day seminars are held during the year.
These free seminars are designed to give participants an overview of the latest management techniques and practices. In addition DQG organises 33 monthly workshops that provide members with the tools and techniques to implement new and exciting management theories within their own organisations.
The group also conducts a full range of training programmes
that are developed in-house around the criteria of the Government of Dubai's chosen business improvement model - the Dubai Quality Award. Members are also eligible to use the materials and facilities of the group to deliver the programmes to their own people.
Events such as the Share Best Practice Conference, Ideas.Arabia, World Benchmarking Forum and the Human Resources Development Congress featuring the highly successful International Management Film Festival are held under the auspices of the DQG. In addition to supporting the Dubai Quality Award, the DQG has its own Emirates Businesswomen award and will be launching two new awards - the Emirates Energy Award and the Family Business Award.
For the benefit of members and all those who are interested in quality management, the DQG publishes a quarterly print magazine Business Quality Review and the monthly internet magazine Quality Quill.
The DQG has established subgroups to cater to its diverse membership and address specific areas of the group's activities. There are 12 active subgroups, namely Human Resources, Ideas.Arabia, Performance Management, Information Technology (IT), Strategy in Action, Benchmarking, Health-Safety-Environment (HSE), Professional Women, Banking and Finance, Construction, Education and Customer Care, where professionals meet regularly to exchange ideas and network. Each subgroup provides a forum for like-minded people to come together to support each other and serve the community and has its own criteria, mission, objectives, and task plans.
