Pricey pets in the UAE black market

A Gulf News undercover investigation has unveiled some of the black market rates offered for some of the most endangered species on the planet

    In parts of the UAE, crocodiles are being illegally sold for Dh450 and salesmen claim to get these creatures ready for purchase in 24 hours.

  • Milk snake

    In the black market, a milk snake can be bought for Dh450. At one shop in Sharjah, buyers can get a python within 15 days.

  • Baboon
    Baboon

    A baboon costs Dh2,400 in the black market; an expensive price to pay for buyers of exotic pets.

  • Lion
    Lion

    Big cats are also hot in the black market. A baby lion will cost wealthy buyers who flout the law Dh50,000.

  • Cheetah
    Cheetah

    Probably the most expensive of exotic pets to buy in the black market are cheetahs. A cub has a hefty price tag of Dh85,000.
