Shoppers get a taste of popular local cuisine

DTCM in its initiative to recreate the magic of the traditional local cuisine and popularise it among the Dubai residents and visitors.

Dubai: The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in its initiative to recreate the magic of the traditional local cuisine and popularise it among the Dubai residents and visitors organised a special show at the BurJuman Centre on July 9 as part of the DSS 2006 Food Surprises theme week.

BurJuman Mall visitors were offered a taste of the varied flavours of the local cuisine.

Chefs from Jumeirah's Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa cooked up exotic local gourmet delights like Khanfarosh, Lokaimat, Sagu, Jazariya and Balalit and distributed it among the visitors to the BurJuman.

Nassar Rajaf from Bab Al Shams led the team of chefs who were responsible for cooking the various traditional gourmet delights and distributing them among the visitors.

The initiative is a part of DTCM?s sustained efforts to promote the local UAE cuisine and make it more popular among the tourists and residents.

Ashraf Al Sayegh, manager of sales promotions for Bab Al Shams, said, "We are the first five-star hotel that offers the entire range of Emirati cuisine. The Food Surprises is the perfect time for us to offer visitors and guests a taste of our entire range of Emirati food."

Marwan Bin Beyat, DTCM manager events and chairman of the Food Surprises Organising Committee, said, "The revival and popularising of the traditional Emirati cuisine has always been a priority with the DTCM and I hope that all five-star hotels will soon start offering the Emirati cuisine on the platter for guests and residents to savour."
