Dubai: Modhesh Fun City received members of the Beijing Olympics committee yesterday as part of visits planned by Chinese embassies around the world to spread the spirit of the Olympic Games.
The visiting delegation led by Consul-General of People's Republic of China, Gao Youzhen, was received by Ebrahim Saleh, general coordinator of DSF Office; Dr Mousa Abbas, director of UAE National Olympic Committee; Ebrahim Abdul Malek, general secretary of the UAE National Olympic Committee; Saeed Rashid Omar, Judo champion and exponent; and Adel Khalid, the only Arab to feature in yacht competitions during the upcoming Beijing Olympics.
The delegation was also taken on a comprehensive tour of Modhesh Fun City, which included a karate demonstration by members of Modhesh Friends Club and traditional heritage shows.
The Beijing Olympics will take place next month from August 8 to 24, where athletes are expected to compete in 302 events in 28 sports. The Olympic slogan, One World, One Dream, calls upon the world to unite in the Olympic spirit.
The Chinese government has promoted the games to highlight China's emergence on the world stage. A total of 37 venues will be used to host the events including 12 newly constructed venues.
The Chinese government is also investing in the renovation and construction of six venues outside Beijing as well as 59 training centres. Almost 85 per cent of the construction budget for the six main venues is being funded by $2.1 billion in corporate bids and tenders.
