Dubai: Thirty artists are displaying their works at Arts Oasis, the DSS 2008 signature event at the Wafi shopping mall.

"The presence of multi-national participants in Arts Oasis sends out a clear message to the world that Dubai is an Oasis for everyone," said Lamees Hamdan Al Shamsi, board member of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (DCAA), who inaugurated it last week.

She also stressed the fact that "art is the universal language that embodies the messages of beauty, peace, love, and tolerance."

"The exhibition presents an exquisite collection of art works that make viewers ponder on the messages that artists want to convey," she added.

Arts Oasis features the works of around 30 multi-national artists based in Dubai. The event will continue till August 6 between 10am and 10pm.

Salah Al Kassim, an advisor at DCAA, Saeed Naboudah, project manager at DCAA, Dubai Shopping Festival Office chief executive officer Laila Suhail, and DSF Office chief operating officer Yousuf Mubarak, were also present.

Laila Suhail said, "In its third year, Arts Oasis has grown in stature to be included as a DSS Signature Event in 2008. By featuring artists from countries in the East and West, Arts Oasis is an event with a difference where ideas are shared and a platform for cultural exchange is created."

Initiated in the summer of 2006, Arts Oasis has enjoyed overwhelming popularity since its inception and is today regarded as a platform for artists locally and regionally to reach out to a wider audience.

Works displayed in Arts Oasis this year will be based on "Emerging Contemporary Art in Dubai," with Wafi visitors having a unique experience of interacting with the participating artists themselves.
