Dubai: The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) is offering language courses to its staff in preparation for Expo 2020.

According to a GDRFA official, employees at airports and seaports will be given the necessary training to make it easy for them to deal with the influx of travellers expected during the Expo.

Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Marri, Director General of the GDRFA, inaugurated the first French language training course at the Alliance Francaise Dubai where 50 employees of the authority from Dubai Airports are participating in the three different courses.

“We are preparing our staff for Expo 2020 by educating them on other cultures and languages,” he said.

The courses will last for three months. “The courses will emphasise on communication skills and communicating with passengers.”

He said an additional three courses will be launched that will extend for nine months in which 50 employees will participate. The best 15 trainees will be selected to complete a one-year study for a diploma from the Alliance Francaise Dubai.

According to French Consul-General to Dubai Majdi Abed, this training is part of the GDRFA-Dubai preparations for Expo 2020, which many francophone people are expected to attend.
