Sharjah: Two Nepalese men have been referred to a court in Sharjah on charges of human trafficking.

The Criminal Court in Sharjah on Thursday started hearing the case, a judiciary official told Gulf News.

Preside Judge Mahmoud Abkar will hear the testimony of the defendants next week, the official said.

The case dates back to June last year when the anti-human trafficking team of Sharjah Police arrested the gang members for their alleged involvement in prostitution.

The authorities received information about two Nepalese men planning to sell two women for Dh14,000.

Investigations revealed that the two men were forcing the women to work as prostitutes.

The police set up a trap to arrest them and an undercover officer posed as a buyer.

The men were arrested as one of them received the money while the other brought the women to the undercover officer.

The two women were sent to a shelter for the human trafficking victims.
