Dubai: A comprehensive annual excellence awards for the multi-billion-dollar health care industry of the UAE will be held for the first time on January 16, 2017.

Since 2015, the health care industry has registered a growth of 12 per cent and is now worth Dh88.2 billion in the UAE. The award seeks to promote and incentivise international health care benchmarks and establish international best practices in the industry here and will, from the second year, go global, announced an official of the Thumbay Group.

The award instituted by the Health Magazine of the Thumbay Group seeks entries from doctors, nurses and other health care professionals in 20 different categories for their skills, services, innovations and several other criteria specified by an eminent jury panel. Health care professionals associated with the Thumbay Group will not be eligible to apply.

“The objective of launching Health Awards is to promote best practices across the health care industry in the region” — where the industry is witnessing a double-digit growth due to the mandatory health insurance scheme, said Thumbay Moideen, founder president of Thumbay Group, which owns the Health Magazine.

The jury panel includes well-respected professionals from health care and media sectors. They are: Dr Ajit Nagpal, chairman of AMITY University (jury chairperson); Dr Mohammad Abdulrazak Nasaif, training consultant at the Ministry of Health; Dr Mouza Al Sharhan, president of EMA; Dr Abdul Ghaffar Alhawi, head of the Centre for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare; Dr Salah Abusnana, consultant endocrinologist and medical director, Rashid Centre for Diabetes and Research; Ms Khuloud Al Omian, editor-in-Chief of Forbes Middle East and CEO of Arab Publishing House; and Dr Manvir Singh Walia, administrative director for health care at Thumbay Group.

How to apply

Health care professionals wishing to apply or nominate will have to send in their initial application on www.healthawards.ae latest by July 30, said Indu Singhal, director of the Emirates Business Management (EBM), the group that is overseeing the award process. ”Those found eligible by our group of assessors will then be invited to fill the form and send in their case studies supported by illustrations. There will be fixed facets in the form and in addition, the applicant will be allowed to submit six pages of case studies and six pages of illustrations to support the case.” In effect, each eligible candidate will be able to upload 14 pages. The award assessors will have three months from August to October to weed out those not conforming to their criteria. Once this process concludes, the shortlist will then be passed on to the members of the jury. The jury will then deliberate and select the finalists, she added.
