Western Region: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region, has confirmed that major infrastructure projects which are currently under way in the Western Region are in line with the social, economic and developmental needs of the community.

Shaikh Hamdan stressed the importance of moving towards achieving the objectives of the Al Gharbia 2030 plan, which aims to achieve sustainable development, under the guidance of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on the need to raise the profile of services and the infrastructure in the Western Region that will ensure prosperity and stability for its residents.

Shaikh Hamdan’s comments were made during a visit to Al Barakah last week, where the first peaceful nuclear power plant in the UAE is being constructed and developed by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, which he said is on schedule.

“The use of peaceful nuclear energy has an important role for the future of our country. These power stations will provide us with electrical energy that we need to meet our requirements. The programme will provide many interesting opportunities for national cadres, thus enhancing their skills and knowledge to contribute to the economic prosperity of the UAE,” said Shaikh Hamdan.

“The UAE attaches major importance to the principle of operational transparency in dealing with its nuclear programmes,” said Shaikh Hamdan, adding that this principle is one of the key elements of the UAE’s policy towards the development of its nuclear power programmes.

The first phase of the programme is 57 per cent complete and further plans include the establishment of four peaceful nuclear plants by 2020, which have been approved by regulators.
