Dubai: The Hamdan Bin Mohammad Heritage Centre announced its new radio channel — Dubai Radio for Quran station — which will be officially launched by the beginning of Ramadan, it was revealed at a press conference on Tuesday.

The radio station, which started its test run on Tuesday on 91.4FM, was created under the directives of Shaikha Hind Bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The launch of the new radio station will also coincide with the launch of the third edition of the ‘Huboub Al Khair’ initiative (‘breezes of benevolence’ in Arabic), which is a series of Islamic lectures that will take place across the UAE between Ramadan 3-10 and will assist residents in understanding fasting and the core principles of Islam.

The 70 lectures will take place after Taraweeh (Ramadan night prayers) in most UAE cities, including Hatta and Al Ain, for the first time this year.

Abdullah Hamdan Bin Dalmouk, CEO of the Heritage Centre, said that the lectures will be aired on the new station.

He added that the radio station will also be accessible to anyone anywhere in the world through the app. “There is also an option to translate any of the lectures available on the application to English,” he said.

In addition to the lectures, the radio station will broadcast daily readings from the Quran, as well as prayers and other Islamic content. Bin Dalmouk added, “This is the first radio station to fall under the umbrella of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy,” he said.

Dr Hamad Al Hammadi, secretary-general of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy, said, “The Dubai Endowment Sign that was obtained by ‘Dubai Radio for Quran’ highlights the societal role it plays and encourages other institutions to contribute to the development of society, both from a cultural and knowledge perspective.”

Ebrahim Abdul Raheem, director of the Department of Events at the centre, said the ‘Hoboub Al Khair’ programme will also include a list of Emirati Quran reciters who will be conducting the Taraweeh prayers during the first week of Ramadan at the Mohammad Hassan Al Shaikh mosque in Dubai, in addition to an Emirati reciters programme which will be hosted by Al Warqa’a Grand mosque during the entire month.
