Dubai: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, visited a creative workshop organised by the General Secretariat of the council in preparation for the launch of Dubai Plan 2021.

The workshop, taking place at Meydan Hotel, is a part of a series of brainstorming workshops and sessions organised by experts from various governmental sectors.

During the visit, Shaikh Hamdan emphasised that it is important to make positive energy a way of life and a method that can be harnessed to make people happy. He stressed the importance of including everyone in the decision-making process in order to come up with decisions that serve the nation and its citizens.

“Today we are building minds that will support and contribute to the future and aspirations of the country,” said Shaikh Hamdan. He praised the positive energy he sensed from the employees and organisers of the workshop.

On the sidelines of his visit, Shaikh Hamdan visited the ‘Convoy of the Future’, which travels to different schools in Dubai and provides students with the opportunity to write down how they imagine or envision the future. The Dubai Plan 2021 work team then reviews them and harmonises aspects of the plan with the students’ aspirations and expectations.

With the deadline of the 2015 Plan soon approaching, Shaikh Hamdan had issued orders to the General Secretariat of the council to launch the Dubai Plan 2021 project. The plan is an extension of the success of Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, and completes the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai a global destination on a variety of levels and in different fields, particularly since the emirate is currently witnessing massive development in various areas.

These developments are reflected in the different initiatives, projects and programmes that were recently launched. At the forefront of such projects is Dubai winning the bid to host Dubai World Expo 2020, plans to make Dubai the capital of Islamic economy, and the strategy to make Dubai the smartest city in the world. The 2021 plan focuses on four key aspects. The first is ‘individual and society’, specifying attributes desired in members of Dubai community so they can shoulder the burden of development and play a key role in driving forward various aspects of the plan.

The second aspect concerns infrastructure, ranging from nature, roads, transportation to sources of energy. The third aspect is economy, as it is the main driving force behind development. The fourth is governance, considering that it is the organisational mechanism that ensures leading the process of development and its continuity.
