Dubai: The wonderful smell of chicken, beef and lamb roasting on an open pit provided a beautiful welcome on my visit to Al Hadheerah.
You could say I am a regular here, but each visit always feels like my first time because there is always something new to see and experience in this beautiful outdoor restaurant that has a lot of Emirati character.
For Ramadan, part of the outdoor seating around the entertainment stage has been converted into a giant tent for guests to have iftar in cool comfort.
To my delight, they've kept the outdoor food market setting just as it is, with an extensive Middle Eastern and international buffet that included mouthwatering grilled meat and seafood, a salad section, Arabic sweets, with plenty of live cooking stations and even a seafood slide of my favourite prawns and crabs. I also stumbled on a special treat: roasted camel in a big chafing dish just next to the open firepit.
The food, ambiance and service are just perfect for iftar with family and friends. The icing on the cake was the live show by a lively tanoura dancer, oud players, and an entertaining reenactment of the life of Bedouins, complete with a camel caravan and sword fights on horses. You could say I don't just come here for the buffet. I come here for the experience.
