Dubai: A public park’s security guard has been jailed for three months for groping a cleaner’s posterior and touching her shoulder.

The 27-year-old Nepalese cleaner arrived at the public park at 7am, when she noticed the 28-year-old Egyptian security guard following her in August. The guard groped her posterior before she turned around and scolded him for doing so.

The cleaner reported the incident to her supervisor and requested him to assign her duty to another location as she had been molested in the park.

The supervisor went to the public park where the incident had taken place and promised the Nepalese victim to assign her a new job the next day and asked the guard to stay away from the woman.

Not yielding to the supervisor’s request, the guard followed the cleaner into the woman’s washroom where she claimed he force himself into the cubicle that she was using.

The Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the Egyptian defendant for molesting the cleaner. He will be deported after serving his punishment.

However, the presiding judge acquitted the defendant of the charges of trespassing into the women’s washroom in the park.

The Egyptian defendant told the court that he didn’t grope the victim and that he had entered the washroom to check out whether the cleaner was OK.

The 27-year-old victim testified that the accused touched her indecently when she was cleaning at the park.

“I yelled at him and told him to stay away from me. I reported the incident to the supervisor and requested him to assign me the job at some other location. When I was in one of the cubicles of the washroom, I heard someone entering the washroom … when I looked under the door, I realised that it was a man. I asked the person from inside the cubicle to leave, but he didn’t do so. When I tried to run out of the washroom, he grabbed my shirt. I managed to free myself and walk out. The police came to the park after I reported the incident to them,” she said.

The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 13 days.
