Abu Dhabi: The Federal National Council’s Human Rights Committee and the Ministry of Interior discussed the government policy on combating domestic violence.

The ministry representatives from the Departments of Community Policing, Human Rights Department and Child Protection Centre spoke during the meeting about the challenges and obstacles hindering efforts to issue legislation on domestic violence crimes. He also briefed the committee on the ministry’s programmes to train and qualify cadres as part of its plans to raise public awareness campaign about domestic violence and reduce the instance of related abuses.

The FNC panel is debating the government policy on domestic violence against women and children and also the powers and functions of shelters in the rehabilitation of both abusers and victims of domestic violence.
