Ras Al Khaimah: An eleven-year-old girl with Down's Syndrome died on Tuesday after efforts to dislodge a piece of chips from the girl’s throat failed, said medical authorities.
The Egyptian girl, identified as R.T.A. from Ras Al Khaimah, died at one of the educational institution in Ras Al Khaimah, an official said. The girl was with her mother when the incident took place on Tuesday morning around 11 am, the official said.
An official at Saqr Hospital told Gulf News that the girl was already dead when she reached hospital. "Her brain was deprived of oxygen due to a blocked airway and she was dead on arrival."
Emergency staff tried to resuscitate the girl but in vain. The mother of the girl told hospital staff that she tried to remove the piece of chips from her daughter's mouth. But it did not work and her face turned blue.
Police office at the hospital reported the incident to police operations room. Ras Al Khaimah Police is investigating the incident.
