Ras Al Khaimah: The Criminal investigation Department (CID) at Ras Al Khaimah Police arrested a gang of seven people for stealing large quantities of power cables and building materials from different warehouses and construction sites cross the country.

The gang members carried out 72 thefts.

Brigadier Abdullah Ali Munkis, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the CID received a tip-off about an Asian gang that was stealing power cables and building materials from warehouses and under-construction sites in the emirate as well as across the country. 

Police formed a team of investigators to trace the suspects and arrested them.

A police team noticed one of the gang members near a warehouse in the emirate. The suspect was about to break into the place and steal cables Police arrested the suspect who later led police to his partners.The arrest was made in cooperation with Sharjah Police.

Six of the suspects were arrested in Ras Al Khaimah while a seventh suspect was arrested in Sharjah. 

Police seized from the suspects a large quantity of power cables and tools that they used to cut the power cables.

The suspects confessed to stealing the cables and building materials from 72 sites and warehouses in the emirate and across the UAE. 

The suspects have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation. 

Brig. Munkis urged members of the public to cooperate with police and report any violations to curb such crimes. He also advised property owners to secure their sites and properties to avoid thefts from happening.
