Dubai: Fujifilm, one of the largest manufacturer of mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lens after Samsung and Sony, has launched its 24MP X-T2.

DSLR cameras use mirrors to reflect the image passing through the lens, which can be seen through the viewfinder. By eliminating the mirrors, the cameras become lighter and more compact.

The X-T2 body is priced at Dh6,099. Combined with a 18-55mm lens, it is priced at Dh7,199.

“Cameras with fixed lenses have taken a hit because of the booming growth in mobile devices but the interchangeable lenses sector is seeing a growth in value,” Yuta Kawamura, general manager of electronic imaging division at Fujifilm Middle East, told Gulf News.

He said that mirrorless cameras are taking the share of entry-segment compact cameras and mid-DSLR segment and they sit between a compact camera and a DSLR. The DSLR is huge and bulky but a mirrorless camera is light as a compact camera and as powerful as a DSLR.

“Our regional revenue has grown 20 per cent in the first six months and our focus will be on high-end mirrorless cameras,” he said.

This year, the company hopes to sell 26,000 units in the region, same as last year but expects revenues to increase 25 per cent.

He said the profit margin is very high when compared to the DSLR sales.
