Dubai: Residents in Dubai will not have to pay for parking during the Al Hijri New Year, which will fall on September 21.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Wednesday announced that all paid parking zones would be free across the emirate on Thursday except for multi-level parking lots.
However, motorists will have to start paying for their parking fees on Saturday, September 23.

Moaza Al Marri, Director of RTA’s Marketing and Corporate Communication said: “All customers’ happiness centres would remain closed during the New Hijri Year holiday corresponding to Thursday 21 September 2017. All paid parking zones would be free across the emirate on Thursday except the multi-level parking lots. Parking fees would be reactivated on Saturday, September 23.
“All centres affiliated to service providers will be closed on Thursday,” added Al Marri.
Metro timings
During the holiday, the metro Red Line stations will operate from 5.30am to 1am the following day, and the Green Line stations will operate from 5am to 1am of the following day.
The Express Metro service will also be available during the holiday. The Dubai tram will be in service during the holiday from 6.30am to 1am the following day.
Metro link bus stations at Al Rashidiya, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta, Burj Khalifa, Abu Hail, and Etisalat will be in service from 5am to 12.20am.
All metro feeder routes are synchronised with the metro timetables.
Main bus stations, such as the Gold Souk, will operate from 5am to 1am of the following day, and Al Ghubaiba Station will be in service from 5am to 12.10am.
