Dubai: Four people died while five others were injured in five different traffic accidents in Dubai over the weekend, a Dubai Police traffic official said.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai Traffic Police, said four of the accidents involved trucks.

In one of the accidents involving trucks on Thursday evening, he said a truck swerved in Jebel Ali and hit another vehicle parked on the hard shoulder, killing the driver of the car and severely injuring the truck driver.

Friday morning also saw another vehicle swerving off Emirates Road in the Sharjah direction, he said. “The driver of the car hit a cement barrier, pushing his vehicle to the other side of the road. Then a moving truck hit the car, splitting it in two. The driver was an Emirati and he succumbed to his injuries.”

Al Mazroui said in another accident involving a truck, also in Jebel Ali, a man who stood next to his broken-down vehicle on the hard shoulder was hit by a truck.

“The accident happened on Saturday at 6.30pm and claimed the life of the driver who was hit from behind.”

Also on Wednesday evening in Jebel Ali, a truck swerved and hit a road barrier. The driver sustained severe injuries due to the impact of the crash.

In a separate run-over accident on Saturday evening on a service road in Jebel Ali, he said, four pedestrians were hit by a vehicle after it swerved off the road, which resulted in the death of one of them and left three others severely injured.

He called on motorists to be cautions while driving and follow traffic rules to avoid fatal accidents.
